iPhone Duo Goes on Sale October 23 as Hands-On Video Shows a Soft Spot Over the Crease

Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo, goes on sale on Friday, October 23, and the final hands-on videos landing before release day have picked out the one physical quirk reviewers had not yet found. The crease itself is effectively invisible, as early impressions reported. Press on the strip of display directly above the hinge, however, and the surface gives way slightly under a finger. It can even wrinkle for a moment before snapping back flat.

What the hands-on video shows

The footage was posted by Weibo user Kang and amplified by leaker Ice Universe on October 20. It shows a fingertip pressing the centre of the unfolded display: the surface depresses, fine wrinkles appear around the pressure point, and the panel returns to smooth as soon as the finger lifts. Kang says multiple Duo units behave in exactly the same way, so this is a characteristic of the design rather than a faulty sample. Untouched, the crease remains essentially impossible to see, helped by the matte nano-texture finish on the inner display.

Why the display may be built this way

One explanation offered is variable-thickness ultra-thin glass, which leaves a thinner, more flexible strip of glass over the hinge while the rest of the panel stays thicker and harder. Corning has described exactly this approach for foldable glass, but Apple has not confirmed it uses the technology, so the explanation remains unconfirmed. Reports also note that Apple uses a softer cover layer over the fold that is relatively cheap to replace, while Samsung’s Fold 8 uses hard ultra-thin glass in the same area. The trade-off appears deliberate: an invisible crease and a replaceable surface, against a fold zone that feels soft under pressure. Whether the softness becomes a durability issue over months of use is something only long-term testing will answer.

Demand is already stretching supply. Unboxing coverage this week reported that fresh orders are being quoted for delivery in late January 2027, well beyond the October 23 release date, and order limits of two phones per customer have been in place since pre-orders opened.

Pakistan availability

Pakistan is not among the first-wave markets for the iPhone Duo, and there is no official local launch date yet. The Pakistan price is not yet confirmed, and the phone will reach local buyers through import channels first, with PTA approval status to be checked on any individual unit before buying.

PhonePrice Team

The PhonePrice Team publishes mobile phone prices, specifications, comparisons and PTA information for buyers in Pakistan. Prices and specifications are checked against brand announcements and retailer listings, and pages are updated when brands revise prices.
