Everything We Know About Samsung One UI 9.5

One universal truth about being a smartphone owner: the second you get used to a major software update, another is already peeking around the corner. This summer, Samsung released the stable build of One UI 9 with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 series. But already the rumour mill is going full speed for its successor, One UI 9.5.

Leaks hint that One UI 9.5 might bring a massive visual and functional overhaul for Galaxy devices. Samsung isn’t just throwing in some extra AI tools, it seems, but building a human-centric design that makes the interface look deeper, feel smoother and read our minds before we’ve even touched the screen.

Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect from One UI 9.5, the One UI 9 foundation it’s based on, and why these changes actually matter to your day to day life.

The “Liquid Glass” Look

The past few years, the smartphone interfaces have felt very “flat.” One UI 9.5 is said to be moving away from that flat look and adopting a design language that leakers are calling a “glass” one.

Visual Depth and Shadows: Leaked screenshots show Samsung adding subtle drop shadows and frosted elements for visual separation between controls and content.

Layered Widgets Shiny glass-like edges for home screen widgets such as “Now Brief” and floating UI elements.

Backdrop Shading: Samsung is reportedly adding subtle backdrop shading to permit more detail and visual depth between the UI and the app background.

It’s a bit of a psychological trick, but it makes the digital space feel a little more tactile and organised, reducing visual clutter when you’re quickly scrolling through your phone.

Everything We Know About Samsung One UI 9.5

A Smarter AI-Powered Dialler

We’ve all experienced the frustration of searching for a particular contact or a recent interaction when we’re in a hurry. One UI 9.5 is bringing a big AI upgrade to the native Phone app dialler.

System-Wide Search Integration: Samsung is reportedly embedding an AI-powered search tool right into the numeric keypad itself.

Contextual Queries You can now query contextual information, contacts, recent interactions and related actions from the dialler screen without having to jump between separate menus.

The much-needed “App Lock”

We’ve all handed our unlocked phone to a friend to look at a funny photo, only to watch in low-grade terror as they start swiping just a little too far.

Native App Security: There is a rumour that One UI 9.5 will finally bring a native App Lock option.

Verification Methods: It will let you lock some apps with password, biometric check or other verification methods.

Building on One UI 9’s Brilliance

One UI 9.5 is an iterative update, so it will naturally bring over the massive functional leaps introduced in One UI 9 (based on Android 17). And if you’re one of the phones that is getting the 9.5 update, you’ll also be getting these amazing quality of life upgrades:

Gemini Intelligence: An agent that can do complex, multi-step tasks on your behalf across 40+ supported applications. You tell it what you need and it does the rest: searches for tickets, finds a restaurant nearby and makes a reservation.

Now Nudge & Now Brief: “Now Nudge” is your forward-thinking assistant, providing useful prompts designed to lead you to your next action. As plans surface in conversation, it surfaces the relevant next steps — checking a schedule, finding a place or saving a location — so you can seamlessly jump between tasks without ever manually switching apps.

Tape Mode for Students Samsung Notes has a very useful feature called Tape Mode that allows you to cover text with digital tape. You can tap the screen to instantly reveal the text, perfect for memorising, revising or testing yourself before an exam.

A Cleaner Quick Panel Samsung has redesigned the Quick Panel with a cleaner layout with borderless circular tiles that make the menu much more natural and uncrowded.

When Should You Expect It?

One UI 9 officially launched as a stable build on the 22nd of July, 2026 for the new Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8, but the Galaxy S26 series is already said to be getting One UI 9.5 beta. Given Samsung’s typical software rollout schedule, we should expect to see the 9.5 update rolling out over the course of the year.

Software updates can often feel like a boring list of technical jargon, but the jump to One UI 9.5 seems to be a genuine effort to make our phones less like rigid, flat screens and more like natural, safe and attractive extensions of ourselves.
