Sony Xperia 10 VII and 10 VIII Start Getting Android 17

Sony Xperia 10 VII and 10 VIII Start Getting Android 17

Sony has started rolling out Android 17 to the Xperia 10 VII and the Xperia 10 VIII. The update is under way now, though Sony has not specified which regions get it first; the expectation is the United Kingdom and Europe before the wider rollout, and owners should check Settings rather than waiting for a fixed date.

The update brings the Android 17 changes Sony has chosen to ship: a reworked Wallpaper & style section, a refreshed Quick Settings layout, and screen recording. What it does not bring is just as telling. The two phones are not getting AirDrop in Quick Share, Desktop Mode, or the upgraded AI Camera Assistant — three of the features other Android 17 phones are receiving. Sony has not said whether those will follow in a later update.

The phone that does not get it

The Xperia 10 VI will not receive Android 17. Sony has published a notice to that effect, citing storage limits on the older phone. The VI was promised three major operating-system upgrades and will receive two. It is a shortfall worth naming plainly: buyers who chose the VI on the strength of the three-upgrade promise are getting one fewer version than advertised.

The 10 VIII in brief

The Xperia 10 VIII, the newer of the two phones getting the update, launched globally in September 2026. It carries a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display at 120Hz with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage expandable to 2TB, a 50MP main camera with a 13MP ultrawide, a 5,000mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers and IP65/IP68 water and dust resistance. It comes in Frozen White, Frosted Grey and Misty Lilac, and it was priced at €599 for the single 8GB + 128GB variant at launch — that price is reported, not a Sony store figure for Pakistan, where no local price has been confirmed.

Android 17 is the second major version for the 10 VIII after Android 16, and the update keeps Sony’s mid-range line on the current platform while the 10 VI stops a version short.
