What Edge Actually Saw
Edge magazine’s GTA VI cover story is the most detailed look at the game so far, and it comes from real access rather than a trailer breakdown. Edge visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh, and co-studio head Rob Nelson played a current build for around 90 minutes with no script while journalists watched. The journalists did not play it themselves, so everything below comes from what Edge saw and what Rockstar’s developers told them, not from hands-on time. The feature runs to 16 pages in issue 430 and carries 14 images provided by Rockstar, 12 of which are brand new. They show Jason and Lucia in new outfits and situations, Vice City streets and waterfront, swamps, oceans, and previously unseen corners of Leonida, including an underwater hammerhead shark and a Vice City police officer named Mendez.
The Police Remember You
The wanted system is the sharpest change in the preview. Police now track a heat system built on what officers know about you: your description, your clothes, whether you had a partner, your weapon, and CCTV footage, shown as icons on screen. Changing outfits or splitting up from your partner can help shake them, because the search follows what witnesses described, not just a star rating. The pursuit itself has new tools on both sides. K-9 units join chases, and Edge watched a German Shepherd pin Jason to the ground. Officers use spike strips, and expensive cars can carry GPS trackers that give away your location. The wanted level now runs to six stars, up from five in GTA V. A shotgun in your hands draws more attention than one slung over your back, which is the kind of small detail that makes the whole system feel less like a meter and more like a memory.
A Story That Reacts to How You Play
A new Criminal Profile system tracks how Jason and Lucia approach crime on a scale from “Professional” to “Irredeemable,” and Rockstar says it influences how the story plays out. How far that influence reaches is not settled: Edge reports that how much the profile changes the story, and whether there are multiple endings, remains unconfirmed. Jason and Lucia themselves work differently from GTA V’s trio. Their closeness sits on a four-point scale that grows with time spent together, through walks, bike rides, gym trips and drives, and they cannot fully split up. Asked whether the pair can marry, Nelson would not say.
A Bigger, Busier Leonida
Rockstar told Edge that Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA V’s map, with landmass nearly matching the playable areas of GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Vice City alone is about twice the size of GTA V’s Los Santos, and the towns outside it add up to about eleven times what GTA V had outside its city. There are an order of magnitude more interiors than in past games, and Leonida opens up early: the game begins in the Leonida Keys before the map opens freely. The world is busier in smaller ways too. Buses and trains run across Leonida on schedules, and one developer told Edge he checks that the buses arrive on time. Days and nights last longer, with extended sunsets, and weather is driven by wind, humidity, fog, time of day and season; storms can lightly damage aircraft. Around 600,000 animations support NPCs with personalities that shape their reactions, and a Scooter Bros phone app delivers your car in seconds, with weapons kept in the trunk. A WAINK app helps locate valuable vehicles wanted by criminal buyers.
What Is Still Not Confirmed
The preview leaves several big questions open, and they are worth stating plainly. No PC date has been confirmed, no GTA Online details were shared in the feature, and no performance targets or 60 frames-per-second mode have been confirmed. No official file size has been published. There is no mobile version announced. A viral post claiming a delay to March 2027 is fake, checked against the official date, which still stands at November 19, 2026.
What to Watch Next
Three dates matter from here. Pre-load is reported to open November 12, ahead of the November 19 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has also announced a 30-track original score album by Justice, due December 11. The remaining questions — the exact release times, the real installed size, and how the heat system and Criminal Profile feel in players’ hands — get answered when the game itself arrives.
